Alleged drunk driving incident in Indiana results in fatality

A 47-year-old man was scheduled to be arraigned in an Indiana Superior Court on a recent Monday. He had apparently been involved in a suspected drunk driving incident. The single vehicle accident is said to have resulted in a fatality.

Police say that two brothers were in their home watching television together when the recent accident occurred. One of the boys, a 16-year-old, was reportedly sitting on a couch at the time. A pickup truck allegedly crashed through the front door of the boys' home. The 10-year-old brother who was with the teen suffered minor injuries, but his older brother did not survive the crash.

Authorities claim that preliminary tests presented results that suggest the pickup truck driver's blood alcohol content level exceeded the legal limit. The man was placed under arrest at the scene. He is expected to face one charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in death.

Being suspected of drunk driving can result in criminal charges being filed in Indiana that have potentially severe penalties under conviction. However, it is every defendant's right to retain legal representation when facing the charges against him or her. In fact, a person who has been arrested under such circumstances would typically benefit from requesting consultation with an experienced criminal lawyer as soon as possible after an arrest has taken place. As a personal legal advocate, an attorney would investigate the situation and work to ensure that his or her client's rights are protected throughout the legal process.
