Drug charges filed in Indiana, children removed from home

An incident occurred in Indiana recently when police arrived at a home expecting to arrest a man. As a result, drug charges were filed against several people. Child Protective Services were also contacted and became involved in the situation.

Police say they arrived at the residence in order to make an arrest in connection with a theft that had taken place at a local Walmart in the recent past. Upon entering the home, officers claim that a man, who was there with several other adults, attempted to flee the house through a window. Police stated that the man was brandishing a sword while trying to climb out the window.

Upon further investigation inside the house, officers claim to have uncovered an active methamphetamine laboratory. Child Protective Services were contacted because there were children present inside the home while the alleged methamphetamine was being made. A total of five youths, including a 7-month-old and a 3-year-old, were removed from the residence by CPS.

The four adults inside the Indiana house now face charges of  manufacturing methamphetamine, possession and neglect of a dependent. If a conviction is rendered, those facing drug charges can incur severe penalties, including time in prison. It is, therefore, typically helpful to consult with an experienced criminal defense lawyer when charged with similar offenses. Simply being charged with a crime does not constitute guilt and all persons are entitled to legal representation in light of the charges against them. Discussing the details of one's arrest with an attorney would help determine what options are available in order to obtain as positive an outcome as possible in court.
