Man in Indiana arrested and charged with drunk driving

A two-vehicle collision occurred on a recent Friday morning in Indiana. The crash resulted in the loss of a young life. The incident also spurred the arrest of one of the drivers, who now faces charges for drunk driving. Residents claim that the intersection where the accident took place is an extremely busy and dangerous roadway.

A mother was traveling near her own home with her 9-year-old son riding as a passenger in her vehicle. Reports indicate that the woman's vehicle was about to exit the subdivision where she lived, merging onto an intersecting road. The woman's car apparently pulled out onto the road and into the direct path of a pickup truck.

Sadly, the woman's young son was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The person behind the wheel of the pickup truck was a 55-year-old man. Police have charged him with intoxicated driving. It was also reported that he was operating a motor vehicle without possession of a valid driver's license.

The boy's mother was taken to a hospital in South Bend for treatment of her injuries. The man charged was also treated at a nearby Indiana hospital and was recently reported to have bonded out of jail. A person accused of drunk driving or criminal violations in traffic retains the right to seek legal counsel under the circumstances. A conviction must be based upon actual proof that meets the high standard of proof required by the criminal justice system. An accused individual would be able to discuss with defense counsel any extenuating details, such as another vehicle pulling directly into the traveling path of his or her vehicle, that may be helpful in addressing formal accusations before the court.
